KOMMERSANT-EKATERINBURG: Digitalization of Metal Industry

The analysts call metallurgy the second most digitalized industry in Russia. With the help of information technology, mining and metallurgical companies increase production profitability and work safety. At the same time, experts note that it is necessary to pay attention to data security measures.

The most common technology used in the companies of the industry is electronic document management. It has been implemented by 72% of companies surveyed by the analysts. In addition, 48% of respondents use energy saving technologies, 45% implemented advanced accounting systems (CRM, SAP, etc.), 38% have fully automated individual business processes, and 35% have introduced eco-friendly technologies. Smart manufacturing and business process automation were also the most popular options for future implementation (72% and 62%, respectively).

“Digitalization significantly increases the efficiency of mining and metallurgical companies,” market participants say. In the foreground is the intellectualization of production using integrated modeling and planning, and the automation of production business processes such as MRO management, warehouse management, procurement, and many other areas. Companies with a high digitalization index will always be in a more advantageous position in times of crisis and will definitely be the leaders in terms of economic stability,” emphasized Leonid Tikhomirov, CEO of the ITPS Group of Companies, in his comment for Kommersant-Urals. This conclusion has been confirmed by long-term experience of project implementation for major industrial enterprises such as: OMK, EvrazHolding, and Vysokogorsky GOK.
