Digital Field Guide. ITPS solutions in the curriculum of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas

24.11.2022

From 14 to 18 November 2022, the Innovation Competence Center of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas held an advanced training course on Smart Management Systems for Hydrocarbon Field Development. The primary learning topics were the digital modernization of assets and the digital field's economic, legal, and business aspects. Heads of departments, chief modeling specialists, leading geologists, and engineers of companies such as LUKOIL-Engineering, LUKOIL-Komi, LUKOIL-West Siberia, RITEK, and other companies took part in the training.

Within the program's framework, ITPS specialists held a round table on Integrated Operations in Real Time" and a workshop on integrated modeling of field development based on the case of the Russian AVIST Oil&Gas platform. During the practical sessions, course participants reviewed examples of multivariate scenario calculations and evaluated the speed and convenience of the models. AVIST Oil&Gas allows you to automate the processes of creating, updating, and adapting component models, thereby increasing the speed and quality of analytical calculations that affect management decisions. The result was stable fulfillment of production plans, reduction of shortages, increase in the volume of extracted raw materials, etc.

"Extractive industry development is unimaginable without modern technologies and management methods enabling to solve operational business tasks and create conditions for obtaining long-term effects. The implementation and use of Russian IT solutions were particularly interesting. Today it is crucial to demonstrate the available technologies and tools and the prospects for the further digital development of the industry. In the future, we plan to hold a series of similar events with the ITPS experts," commented Nikolai Eremin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Development and Operation of Oil Fields at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.

"The oil and gas sector is changing rapidly, and every year numerous smart management technologies become available. The number of digital twins, integrated models, is growing, not only in production but also in drilling and seismic exploration. Hence the tremendous demand for specialists with skills in working with models and analytical data. We are proud of our long-standing cooperation with Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, which allows us to contribute to the professional development of top-notch professionals. We support the aspiration of the country's main oil and gas university to keep pace with the times and develop competencies widely sought after in the industry. We hope the practical experience we have gained in digitalizing deposits will help solve this problem," ITPS Product Director Alexei Mezentsev stated.
