10.06.2019

The annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2019) that took place on July 6-8, 2019 is the global business event which sees both heads of states and top managers of major international corporations in attendance. The forum is an influential platform for exchanging experiences and discussing key economic issues affecting the Russian and global markets.

This year, over 19,000 delegates, among them 3,500 international visitors from 145 countries, took part in the event. SPIEF has been held annually since 1997, while since 2006 it has been held under the patronage, and with the personal participation, of the President of the Russian Federation. In his opening address at the SPIEF 2019 plenary session, the President of the RF Vladimir Putin emphasized the need to support innovation, underlining artificial intelligence and digital transformation of the largest enterprises. “Russia has all the resources to create advanced technological solutions. I invite the leading companies to become partners of the state in developing transparent scientific and technological activities. The practical result of this partnership will be the creation of successful break-through products. For the state, this is an opportunity to consolidate its technological sovereignty, for the companies involved it is a chance to step into a new technological era”, declared the head of the state.

More than 230 events took place in terms of STIEF 2019, including more than 170 sessions within the main program, in the format of panel discussions and round tables, themed business breakfasts, TV debates, and country business dialogues. More than 50 events were organized on the thematic platforms. Most of the business program sessions touched upon the introduction and use of information technologies by manufacturing and resource enterprises, amongst which were “Digital mineral management”, “Digital technologies in industry”, “Digital and technological transformation of oil and gas companies” and many others.

“At the Forum there are now more events than ever before dedicated to aspects of the digital economy. It underlines the importance and relevance of the topic. Reducing production costs, optimization of production expenses, training of qualified personnel, risk management and energy efficiency – all these questions are voiced at each business program session in one way or another. And these questions are very pertinent to us. As an IT company, we are working to resolve them every day. As such, an interesting case study featuring the “Industrial Internet of Things in Upstream” was presented today at ER-Telecom’s stand, whereby the IoT field is represented by ER-Telecom and the software platform – by ITPS. Such projects are very relevant today, because, as the results of the project implementation reflect, thanks to increased transparency and  the obtaining of reliable data, issues key to preventing environmental disasters are being solved”, the Head of ITPS Leonid Tikhomirov revealed.

Over four days, more than 1,300 Russian and international experts and speakers addressed participants. Taking stock, the organizing committee announced a record number of agreements: 650 contracts were signed during the Forum, amounting to a total of 100 billion rubles. The scale of the event and the fact it is seen as an open platform for the exchange of international best practices and competencies was confirmed by the sheer number of participants in attendance, with more than 3,500 Russian and international companies – among them more than 570 foreign companies and more than 1,800 Russian companies – represented at the leadership level.
