Implementing a consolidated project reporting system for large capital projects at West Qurna-2 based on Oracle Primavera Analytics and SAP BI

Implementation of a consolidated project reporting system for large capital projects at West Qurna-2 based on Oracle Primavera P6 Analytics and SAP BW

Project Objectives

  • Add functionality for data documentation and collection during implementation of company projects.
  • Add functionality for generating regulatory and analytical reports for managerial decision-making

The project implemented a solution which enabled users to automatically generate two types of reports:

  • Analytical reports – These are reports generated through single-time user requests by displaying data in different dimensions using information from the oil and gas asset management system based on Oracle Primavera. Requirements for analytical reports are not rigidly formulated and may change depending on a specific situation.

The solution is based on Primavera P6 Analytics (Oracle) which provides - among other things - a ready-made set of integration tools for collecting data from Oracle Primavera sources and a ready-made metadata model for analytical reporting.

Regulatory reports – These are consolidated regular reports generated based on a procedure defined for the project/by the company, including defined responsible persons and dates of data collation and preparation obtained from different sources. Regulatory reports are generated using a register of indicator attributes common for all sources.

Regulatory reporting was automated using a SAP BW enterprise system:

  • A standard report template, including a list of all data sources required for report completion was developed
  • Functionality for collecting and consolidating data from different sources into a centralized storage based on SAP BW was developed
  • Processes for automatic template completion with data from a centralized data storage were configured.

Result

The project enabled the customer to achieve the following results:

  • Development of procedures for capital project reporting
  • Typification of report forms for capital projects
  • Automation of regulatory and analytical reporting processes
  • Creation of sets of reports for managerial decision-making
  • Definition of responsibilities for centralized project report management

This enabled the customer to document and unify project reporting requirements, while taking into account the needs of project teams, functional units and corporate management and keeping them updated as the company implements its capital projects.

The solution makes it easier for users to generate project reports, while reducing man-hours and increasing the transparency of the reporting procedure.
