ITPS’s project for TATNEFT became the winner of Global CIO prestigious contest as “The Best Project for Digital Production Big Data Management”

31.01.2018

On January 31, 2018, the ceremony of awarding the winners of Global CIO Project of the Year contest was held. ITPS Group’s project “Development of a Digital Platform for Management of TATNEFT Big Geological and Geophysical and Field Data Based on Innovative Technologies of Indexing, Federated Search, Verification, and Data Processing” was highly appreciated by the IT community in Russia and was awarded a prize as “The Best Project for Digital Production Big Data Management”, according to the results of Global CIO portal prestigious contest.

TATNEFT, one of the biggest oil companies in Russia, has been successfully implementing digital transformation of business in order to achieve target strategic indicators by 2025: double its capitalization growth, increase production by 11%, and reduce operating expenditures per unit by 10%. Specially for TATNEFT ITPS has developed and implemented a big data management system, which:

  • provides instant access to all production data accumulated through the whole history of the Company, irrespective of formats and storage places. This is achieved through the use of federated search technology and good integration of heterogeneous, geographically and organizationally distributed sources of geological and geophysical and field data;
  • allows integration of all data sources, based on data indices, in a single Web interface, in compliance with data access authorization, so the time needed to prepare data for further simulation is reduced greatly;
  • has been developed by Russian specialists and successfully used at leading Russian and foreign oil and gas companies;
  • quickly provides personnel with all necessary information to build and update digital production models in real-time mode;
  • significantly enhances precision and efficiency of planning and production management based on predictive technologies, big data, and high-quality digital models.

In the framework of the project in a remarkably short time – in 7 months only – a virtual bank of geological and geophysical information with a significant amount of data (the size of indexed files only amounted to at least 10 million copies) was created without their transfer between warehouses and DBMS. For reference: building of a conventional data bank for a comparable amount of data usually requires 2-3 years. To a large extent the high speed was achieved through application of innovative technologies.

Thanks to optimization of processes and opportunity to quickly handle big data it became possible to get 30-60 % reduction of time needed collection, preparation, and analysis of data for digital models and to get actual tools for enhancement of economic efficiency of fields and the Company as a whole.
